David Drummond to open Radio 2AD

ARMIDALE OPENS TO-NIGHT. 2AD (Armidale) commences its trans- missions to-night. The station will operate on a frequency of 1080 kilocycles (278 metres), which is the same channel as that used by 3SH (Swan Hill, Victoria). It is two channels above 2UW (Sydney) and three below 2CA (Canberra). A sister station, 2LV (Inverell) will be opened in a few weeks. Both stations, which are owned and ope- rated by Northern Broadcasters, Ltd., have been built by Standard Telephones and Cables (Australasia), Ltd. Hitherto this company has been concerned more with high-power transmitters, having supplied the equipment for all the National regional stations from 2NC onwards. The opening ceremony at 2AD will be per- formed by the Minister for Education (Mr. Drummond). The power is 100 watts.
