TAMWORTH, Thursday.
Although 155 persons had signed a requisitioning to the Mayor of Tamworth, asking him to convene a public meeting to discuss the Peel River erosion problem, there was an attendance of only 17 when tho meeting was held. The Mayor read a letter from Mr. Chaffey, Minister for Forests, stating that he would do his best to secure Government assistance to rectify the problem. It was stated that it was only a matter of time before the river would go right through the road, destroying the telegraph lines and the town pumping station. A resolution was passed that the Government be asked to provide the money necessary for resuming and cutting the channel.
