TAMWORTH, Tuesday.

The Cockburn Shire Council has for some time past been considering the best method of constructing main roads. The council recently sent a deputation to the Main Roads Board to discuss the class of road to be constructed. The policy of the Main Roads Board is for the council to carry out bitumen construction on main roads, and in order to assist the council in its endeavour to build better roads, the board has offered to advance the sum of £10,000, to be expended on trial sections of the Manilla, Nundle, and Armidale roads. The class of load construction to be experimented with — bituminous macadam — will be new to the Tamworth district. The council proposes to commence work within a month.
