SYDNEY, Sunday.
Fire which destroyed wine cellars at Bukkulla vineyards near Inverell yesterday caused damage estimated at £30,000. Valuable plant and more than 50,000 gallons of wine were destroyed.
The vineyards are owned by Mr. Fred Asimus who was working on grapevines when he saw smoke issuing from a cellar. He was unable to save anything in the cellar but by using the telephone he organised a bucket fire brigade to protect a near by house. Wine casks caught fire and burst. Casks worth £1,800, some of which were made of old English oak and were 75 years old, were destroyed. Some of the casks were valued at £100 each.
