Thursday 21 August 1862, The Maitland Mercury & Hunter River General Advertiser

(From the Tenterfield Chronicle, Aug. 14)

The crushing machine will probably be ready for work in two months time, but little quartz is in preparation for it. The creek workings appear to be giving satisfaction. Holding’s party of six have been engaged two months in cutting a race twenty feet broad by half a mile in length, in which they have erected a water wheel to work two heavy pumps, the leakage being great. Stores are much wanted. The weather has lately been favourable for mining.
