Forgery in the Gold Fields

ARMIDALE.

The hearing of the first charge against Mr. James Buchanan, late Chief Commissioner of the Northern Gold-fields, for forgery, while in the Government service, is just concluded. The defendant is committed for trial. Bail was allowed. The Bench was not unanimous in the decision.
The amount already collected in this district for the Lancashire Relief Fund is £300, and subscriptions are still coming in.
