Difficulties of settlers
Saturday 4 December 1909, The Sydney Morning Herald
INVERELL.-At the land board meeting at Ashford on Tuesday last, a number of important cases had to be postponed owing to the flooded state of the Severn River. The necessity for a bridge over this stream is very great, as owing to the throwing open of lands on Bonshaw, Goonian, and Mandoe holdings, there has been a considerable increase in settlement on the north side of the Severn River. In one of the postponed cases, a settler had brought a solicitor from Inverell, 50 miles, to his holding to conduct his case, and will now be put to double expense, owing to the absence of a bridge on this-the main Inverell to Queensland road.
