FRIDAY, 10TH JULY.
PETITION UNDER THE MUNICIPAL ACT. — ARMIDALE — Colonial Secretary’s Office, Sydney, 2nd July, 1863, — In pursuance of the Act of the Colonial Parliament, 22 Victoria, No. 13, his Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has directed the publication of the substance and prayer of a petition addressed to his Excellency, as hereinafter set forth, signed by one hundred and twenty-five householders, resident in the town of Armidale, praying for the erection of their locality into a municipality. — The petitioners state that the town of Armidale contains nine hundred and fifty inhabitants or thereabouts. That they are desirous of having the town of Armidale declared a municipality. That in the opinion of petitioners the limits and boundaries of the town of Armidale may be defined as follows:- Commencing at a stake at the north-west corner of Niagara and Erskine-streets, and bounded on the north by the north side of Erskine-street, being a line bearing east eight degrees fifteen minutes south one hundred and fifty-one chains; on the east by the east side of of Canambe-street, being a line bearing south eight degrees fifteen minutes west one hundred and thirty-nine chains ; on the south by the south side of Galloway-street, being a line bearing west eight degrees fifteen minutes north one hundred and fifty-one chains ; and on the west by the west side of Niagara-street, being a line bearing north eight degrees fifteen minutes east one hundred and thirty-nine chains to the aforesaid stake. And the petitioners pray as follows :- “That the town of Armidale may be declared a municipality under the ‘Municipalities Act of I858’ and that the Council of such municipality may be declared to consist of a mayor and aldermen.”
