TRAGEDY AT ARMIDALE.
Girl and Employer.
Eileen Brennan 22, single, was found shot dead in a utility truck on the Bundarra Road, about five miles from Armidale, yesterday Her employer Leo Henty Giant 26, baker, of Armidale, was lying dead near the truck.
The girl had been struck on the head several times by some heavy object, believed to have been the starting handle of the car, but she had died from the effects of two bullet wounds in the head.
Grant, who was lying about 15 feet from the truck had been shot once through the head. A small-calibre rifle which had evidently fired the bullets that had killed him and Miss Brennan was lying beside his body.
A motorist reported the tragedy to the Armidale police. Detective-sergeant Alford and other police soon arrived on the scene.
Miss Brennan had lived all her life with her parents and other members of her family in Taylor Street Armidale. Police said that she was popular and respected.
Grant came from Sydney and settled in Armidale about four months ago. He opened a cake shop and bakers in Beardy Street.
