Wednesday 29 April 1903, The Sydney Morning Herald

INVERELL, Tuesday.

At last night’s meeting of the municipal council a long discussion took place in connection with granting the right to a private company to light the town. Some two years ago a company was formed for this purpose, and a bill was subsequently presented to Parliament sanctioning the right. This bill is still awaiting Parliamentary sanction. A special committee reported strongly against the granting of the concession, the report concluding, “That the committee is unanimously of opinion that the passing of the Inverell Gas Company’s bill would be inimical to the best interests of the ratepayers and the bill should be withdrawn by the company, failing which the further passage of the bill through Parliament should be opposed by the council.” The report was adopted.
