GIFT OF £2500 FOR LIBRARY.

Armidale University.

MR. DIXSON’S GENEROSITY.

The Minister for Education (Mr. Drummond) announced yesterday that Mr. William Dixson would give £2500 for the establishment of a library at the New England University College which is to be established at Armidale.

Mr. Drummond said that Mr. Dixson had already shown his greet interest in library development in New South Wales by a number of generous gifts. His gifts of pictures and sculpture to the Mitchell Library were valued at £25,000, and he had given £4000 for the erection of special bronze doors in the proposed new Mitchell Library.

For a long period Mr. Dixson had been interested in the collection of Australiana, Mr. Drummond added, and his collection of books and manuscripts, maps, plans, and pictures was probably worth £70,000. Mr. Dixson had promised that he would bequeath the whole of this collection lo the trustee of the Mitchell Library.
