£250,000 FIRE AT INVERELL

INVERELL, Monday.

Fire early to-day destroyed most of Inverell’s newest and biggest shopping block.

The blaze, which broke out shortly after midnight, caused damage estimated at nearly £250,000 to a timber yard and hardware store.

A car showroom in the building was also severely damaged by smoke and water.

A series of explosions rocked the building as flames reached a quantity of highly inflamable liquid in front of the premises.

The fire was the biggest in Inverell for some years.

Detectives are investigating its cause.
