Tuesday 3 June 1924, Barrier Miner
New States Commission.
MEMBERS RECEIVE WELCOME
AT ARMIDALE COURTHOUSE
Armidale, Tuesday.
Members of the New States Commission were welcomed at the Courthouse at Armidale yesterday.
Judge Cohen, in responding, said that it is not possible to hear all the evidence and frame a report in three months. It will take longer than that, he added.
David Drummond, M.L.A., gave evidence that not one town in the north had over 900 inhabitants, whereas just over the Queensland border in Southern Queensland there is a fine city of 230,000 with a splendid port and the utmost facilities for commerce, trade and education.
The hearing was adjourned.
