DISTRICT COURTS.

ILLNESS OF JUDGE HEYDON.

ARMIDALE, Monday.

The District Court was opened this morning before Judge Docker, after being postponed from Saturday owing to the illness of Judge Heydon. Judge Docker arrived this morning. Judge Heydon is seriously ill at the Imperial Hotel. A trained nurse arrived from Sydney this morning.

Newspapers were the main, if not the only, source of news and information for much of that time. For this reason we can get a deeper glimpse into everyday life a century ago, than we might gleen from today's newspapers.

[... and in the process of doing this, I'll learn more about the history of the area in which I live. I'll concentrate on northern New England, at least initially, rather than the entire New England area, as that's the part I'm more familiar with.]
