Old news from Armidale and New England

I’m Gordon Smith. I live near Armidale, New South Wales – a part of rural Australia. Armidale, and the greater New England area, though young in the global sense, has its own rich history.

In these pages I aim to highlight parts of the area’s local history through the use of the ‘digitisation of newspapers’ project within the National Library of Australia. I search for news of interest, and in payment-of-sorts, I correct the text where the Optical Character Recognition process has failed to correctly interpret the digitised text. Those who find those corrected articles at a later date will benefit.
